Sitka Downpour Jacket & Pants Review

I purchased the Sitka Downpour Jacket and Pants in Ground Forest Camo during 2020 for my 2nd rifle elk hunt in Northeast Colorado. Temperatures ranged from -21 degrees with 9 inches of snow to 64 degrees and sunny.

My purpose for the jacket was an outer shell that is completely waterproof and windproof. The Jacket exceeded my expectations. Not only was it completely wind and waterproof, but it was also much warmer than I thought it would be. The jacket has 3 external pockets that all zip closed and are waterproof. The chest pocket is just left of center and is perfect size for a cell phone, GPS, or car keys and a wallet. It stays tight enough to the chest with a full-size iPhone that it does not mess with a binocular harness or chest strap for a pack. The jacket breathes well but can get a little warm when temperatures are in the high 40s and 50s when there’s no wind or rain. When stored. it can be shoved into a pretty small backpack pocket. I was able to fit it and the pants in the top pocket of my backpack. One other really nice feature is the wrist/sleeve straps. It has a really solid Velcro that does not come lose and can be tighten so you can easily use your hands without gloves or loosened so that even super thick gloves will fit in them.

Remember to buy the jacket a size or 2 larger as you will want it as your external shell. I would also recommend shopping for any Sitka Products at “1 Shot Gear” or 1shotgear.com. They guarantee the lowest prices and let you earn points toward coupons including 20% gear which they allow you to use on Sitka and other high-end gear.

The pants were, and still are, 100% wind and waterproof. They have a really nice feature that you can unzip the sides completely down if you need to cool off. I like wearing shorts underneath with pockets so it makes it really easy to get to those pockets. There is one weatherproof zipper pocket on the front right side. It is big enough to fit a full size iPhone with case and a wallet. It can be a bit hard to get to the pocket so I would recommend putting things you do not need all the time in there. The only downside to the pants is if you get thorns in them they can be really hard to remove.

The jacket is current listed for $349.00 and the pants are listed for $299.00.
